Polka dots and a tiara

I'm super excited about my next cake (then again, I'm always excited about cake) - Miss Addison's 1st birthday cake. Today I made my first ever fondant tiara, now for an art class flunky like me, even the little things are impressive (haha).
Number 1 tiara

Once it finishes drying I will post pictures of it standing upright and as always I will sneak photos in of the cake as it progresses.

Death by chocolate?

Is it possible to die from too much chocolate? I think this cake just might answer that question!
Death by chocolate cake - triple chocolate fudge cake with blood red chocolate mouse in between the layers, smothered in whipped chocolate frosting, covered in kit kat bars, topped with m&m's and finished with a pretty steel blue bow.

Yikes, stripes...

I'm excited to have another new design, especially one so versatile. Pick your three favorite colors-viola!
Striped cake pops - I think the bottom picture looks like ice cream, love them!

The design process

Late this month one of my siblings is turning 15, so for her special day we had a cake design session and this is what we came up with. (Make sure to check back for photos of the finished product!)

First is my drawing of the concept cake (my art skills not impressive):

And here is her rendition of the same cake:

Obviously she loves bright colors and funky designs. The bottom layer will be chocolate cake covered in neon green whipped icing with black fondant zebra stripes and bordered in varying colors of neon fondant balls. The top layer will be french vanilla cake covered in neon pink whipped icing with multi colored neon fondant circles (with a circle cut out of the larger circle), topped with a fondant bow and twirlies (as I call them), and bordered with varying colors of neon fondant balls. I've also purchase some pre-bent wire to do the mid-air hanging neon fondant balls.

Needless to say I'm very excited about this project and can't wait to get started. Don't forget to check back and see the finished product (might have to do a couple dozen cake balls to match!).

Update: (2/19/2011)

Mock up of the cake.

Without the candles so you can see the fondant designs.

Over view.

I love these water falls (or whatever the technical term is).

Baking will commence soon then the fun of frosting and decorating and finding the room in my fridge for this awesome cake.
