A last minutes request....

I got a frantic call last night from a mother whos daughter was having her first birthday party today - and the cakes and frosting were made but not finished. SOooo this is how I spent my Friday night without kids -
Abbey Cadabey cake - vanilla cake covered in butter cream stars. (I have no training on how to decorate this way so I was very pleased it turned out so well!)
Crown cake - chocolate cake covered in butter cream stars and edible pearl accents.

#1 cake - vanilla with butter cream and star Abigail and border.

Thankfully Miss Abilgail got her cakes well before needed and the party was saved. Happy First Birthday Miss Abilgail!

Better eat it before it eats you!

I had a request from my future mother-in-law for a book cake for her birthday (we share a love for all things Harry Potter) - this is what I came up with.
The Monster Book of Monsters Cake - 1/2 chocolate and 1/2 french vanilla with vanilla butter cream and whipped chocolate frosting and fondant accents.

Owls are trendy again....

I had a request for a cupcake pull apart cake (for a baby shower) in the shape of an owl and was given a copy of Disney Family Fun Magazine (www.disneyfun.com) as a reference on how she wanted the cake to look. I borrowed a brown serving tray with a fall leaf motif and bought a scrap book cut out of a nest with eggs at a local craft mall. 18 french vanilla cupcakes and a batch of vanilla butter cream later - here is the end result:

All in all I'm please with the way it turned out. I'm not a huge fan of owls but I have to admit their huge eyes catch my attention and I can't take my eyes off of them. Now I'm off to ice an Easter rabbit cake - pictures to follow soon!

For your favorite fisherman....

Dark chocolate fudge cake with peanut butter butter cream filling and iced in whipped frosting with gummy fish accents. (Client isn't a huge sweets fan so I was going for something not too sweet but still tastey.) Thanks for looking!

Feeling a little groovey ~~~~

My first three tiered cake (and yes, I know it is leaning) - top two tiers are french vanilla and the bottom tier is milk chocolate all covered in vanilla butter cream with fondant accents.
On the middle layer I was going for a blue/purple tie die effect (which doesn't show up well in the picture) - it looks a little more like a blue/purple streaky effect.

I am utterly scared to deliver this cake today -even though it has supports running through out I didn't run a support from the top of the cake all the way to the bottom (hoping I don't end up regretting this)! Wish me luck and I hope the birthday girl enjoys it.
