A little non-edible

I learned two important rules tonight - 1) don't burn yourself on the hot glue gun and 2) measure before you start so you know what your making will fit (I think this should have been rule 1!). Anyway, after replacing the doors and storm doors to my house I just knew I wanted to hang wreathes for the seasons on my front door - too bad there isn't much room and I didn't find that out till the project was over - sigh.

Luckily for me it fit in between the kitchen door and storm door - so not a total waste. (Wow I need to paint the basement door - it is looking grimey. Sorry my ADD kicked in! SQUIRL!!!) I think I need to rework my bow but all in all I'm a happy camper.

Air yum yum...

Something a little different and leaning (gotta work on that problem). Zebra stripes, stars, hearts, flowers, and peace signs - what else says girl? This chocolate cake is covered with butter cream icing and decorated with fondant accents.

NASCAR - enough said

For the ultimate Nascar fan (or so I guess) - chocolate and vanilla sheet cake with butter cream icing.

STRIKE!

Reto coloring - just need the shirt with my name on it and I'm good to go. Have I even mentioned that I LOVE bowling shirts? Not sure why but I think they are cute.

Bowling ball cake - french vanilla cake with butter cream icing.

Thomas

My first attempt at a Thomas the tank engine cake.

Tutu

Something a little different that I created:

The inspiration.
The final result plus the hat that goes with it.

Only my sister would walk around in something like this.

What I've been up to

Needless to say, I have be neglecting to post pictures here for a while. Boo me! So here is what I've been up to this month (along with boyscout camping, fundraising, etc.) -
Drum cake with flames - chocolate cake with fondant flames and butter cream icing.

The seasons progression - ear of corn cake for a local farmer, the umbrellas represent his winter vacation in Florida. Chocolate cake with whipped icing, candy corn, and fondant.

Smiley skeleton face cupcakes - chocolate cupcakes with vanilla frosting.

White chocolate 3D skull - my chocolate working skills are slowly improving.

I think that is all I have been up to - so busy with everything else I'm not sure if I forgot one or not. So, stay tuned and hopefully I will be more timely with my posts !~ ) Oh and Happy Fall, Harvest, and Halloween (in case I don't get back as soon as I plan).

Not going my way

I should have known better than to attempt this cake today, but I did anyway. It didn't turn out how I had planned but I don't think it look horrible by any means either! (Hope the customer agrees.)
Fire truck 1st birthday cake -elongated sheet cake (1/2 chocolate and 1/2 vanilla) with butter cream icing and molded white chocolate helmets. I am told yellow helmets means the fire fighter is a volunteer, you learn something new every day!

Apparently today was a chocolate day, here is something extra that I did - match sticks.

Beep, beep, beep Under construction

As I do consider putting a cake together as "construction" I never thought I would be "building" a castle. Okay, so a lame reference and now, onto the cake...
Castle cake - 1/2 french vanilla & 1/2 milk chocolate covered in butter cream.

21

What a great theme for a 21st birthday party - blackjack.

Zebra striped purse cake with fondant cards, fake diamond accents, and real poker chips. Red paper hearts have names such as friend, mother, daughter, sister, and aunt on them to represent the people who bought the cake for the birthday girl.

Have your cake and candy too!

Didn't realize how long it had been since I posted on here! Life has been hectic and I haven't been baking much but business is picking up! Happy 1st day of September to you all. This is my first cake in about a month and a half - had a lot of fun with it and as always added polka dots where ever possible : ~ P
Candy machine cake - french vanilla cake with butter cream and fondant accents.

My first ever wedding cake!!!

John Deere themed wedding - 4 tieres starting from the bottom - red velvet, french vanilla, milk chocolate, and carrot. All covered in butter cream and wrapped with diamante (fake diamonds) and diamante accents in the yellow fondant feathered rose centers.

Needless to say, if you were in Illinois today then you know it was HOT, which is death for cakes. By the time I delivered this cake it was already sagging on one side and by the time I was finished with the rose petals it was leaning hard due to the heat in the reception room - eek. Luckily it stood long enough to be cut!

Head and shoulders above the rest

My youngest little sister just LOVES giraffes so I wasn't surprised when I got a request for her birthday cake of a giraffe. Here is just a few photos of how it looks so far - still have to transport it and finish icing the neck and head.
The body is chocolate cake with rice crispy treats to cover the legs and neck. Head will be vanilla cake. Fondant accents for spots and tail.

Update: somehow no pictures were ever taken while the giraffee had a head - go figure lol.

Puppy love

I had so much fun putting this one together - I think it turned as one of those "so ugly it is cute" animals.
Puppy cake - vanilla with butter cream frosting and fondant accents.
Here is the chocolate puppy cake that is also for the same party - not as fancy but still cute in my opinion.

Fit for a princess

What do a tiara, polka dots, and cake have in common - if you walk into my house you will see them all! I love projects like this one and had a lot of fun making it all.
Here is the cake on the stand - pre polka dots. This is the first time I've ever rimmed my cake board with ribbon but I think it gives it a nice finished look.
In the wine fridge chilling with it's new colorful adornments.
And the tiara topped with non-edible jewel adornments.

Can't wait to see it all put together!

Chew, chew....

Trains go through my town almost every hour so it was fun to be able to make one from cake.
Train engine- dark chocolate fudge cake with vanilla butter cream.

Has anyone heard if Crisco has changed their recipe lately? For some reason - maybe it was the cake form the back of this cake didn't want to take the icing (as in the icing keeps sliding off). Going to do a few touch ups before delivery today in hopes to make everything look right.

Preparing for my first ever wedding cake order

I don't think I have experienced anxiety this bad in years - my first wedding cake order! Might I add that my own wedding will be the week before this order and I'm not nervous about it but I'm scared half to death about this order. I've had dreams that I drop the cake, screw up the icing flowers, etc. EEEEK!
So I did what I do best - research and try to learn how to make the roses that are supposed to adorn the cake and in my search I found feathered roses. Here is my first attempt at them and let me add, I LOVE IT!!!

Here are a couple of different views and while I was at it I played with a few more flowers.
Ribbon rose bud.
From the left pansy, feathered rose, not sure what this flowers name is, and ribbon rose bud.
I really wish my camera took better pictures - I had so much fun doing these and hope to get more chances to make them soon. Well after my wedding and this wedding cake are done!

Stud Muffin

I like to keep things new and different so I was excited to get an order for a diaper big wheel. The only specifications were that it was for a boy and the mom didn't want animals. I tried for vehicles or cars and came up with a bottle and a receiving blanket that have different types of vehicles on them. I had to add polka dots on the tire treads because I simply love them.

Rear view - used a onesie on this on for the back side instead of a bib but loved the cookie and muffin theme.
