Edible sparkles- Yum!

I have been approached to do cupcakes for a local business' grand opening and also a local graduation. So naturally I was excited to try something new - edible glitter sparkles!

Take me out to the ball game

I love making cakes because it allows me to be creative and needless to say this week I have had plenty to be creative with! Here is the last cake for this week - I'm not answering my phone any more today!!! (lol)

Baseball cake - vanilla ball cake on top of a chocolate square grass cake - tried to put the bases on also but that effect might have been lost.

This cake didn't turn out quite how I wanted because the temperature spiked in my house and the icing started to melt!!! After freaking out and cranking the air conditioner I tried my best to repair the damage so the bottom of the ball is thicker than it should have been - booo!

Minnie Mouse Smash Cake ( with updated pull apart cake)

So after the dog ate my cake and my wonderful mother came to the rescue I took a nap and then started on the next cake in line - another graduation sheet cake (looks the same as the other so I won't bore you with pictures). After that I finished my night off with a fun little cake.

Minnie Mouse smash cake - milk chocolate cake with butter cream icing and fondant ears and bow.

I had originally bought a cool black and pink zebra striped bow to place on top of the cake but after some playing I found that the black coloring on the frosting leaches onto fabric so I had to make a bow. Anyway, I hope Miss McKynlee likes it.

Update: Finished the cupcake pull apart cake today. I have to admit it looks a little more like a little girl with an afro than it does Minnie Mouse. Or as my fiance said "it could pass for Mickey Mouse in drag".

Minnie Mouse pull apart cake - french vanilla and milk chocolate cupcakes with butter cream icing.

Minnie Mouse head cake pops - these happen to be vanilla but I also made chocolate and peanut butter.

Awww - I love how cute this turned out - Thank You again to Alisha Duenas (see my recommended links) for saving me with all the cute minnie head pics.

Celbrating the end of an era

Caps, gowns, pomp and circumstance seems like a year ago when I received my diploma - too bad it has been over ten! Anyhow- here are some cakes for a graduating relative of mine.

And two hours later after a quick run to the grocery store I found this ~
apparently my dog wanted a graduation cake also : ~ (

We are having a heat wave.... a tropical heat wave ~~~~~~~~~~

With a recent heat wave and average temperatures for July (in MAY!!) it is only fitting that I got a cake order for a Luau themed birthday cake. Bright colors adorn this cute cake and the birthday girl was sooo sweet and thanked me for making her "wonderful" cake.

It's a luau! - Neon colored whipped icing adorns a three layered top tier of french vanilla cake and two layer bottom tiered milk chocolate cake. Fondant accents were used to make a grass skirt for the cake and also a flower lei and palm trees complete with little coconuts.

I was excited that the weather held out long enough for me to deliver this cake with out a disaster like rain or all the crappy things falling out of the trees these days showering the cake. Next weeks cakes are Minnie Mouse and Graduation themed - be sure to check back as I fill my first order of cake for 100 people. I also got my first order for a wedding cake today - 150 people - soooo excited.

First Communion

Not being of any specific religion I can not say that I fully understand the meaning of your first communion as a Catholic. None-the-less I made a cake with two days notice for a beautiful little girl who will be taking her first communion tomorrow. Congratulations Anna!

First Communion Book Cake - vanilla cake with vanilla butter cream and fondant accents. (Under the top two butterflies there is a real bookmark with some blue beads and an angel sitting on a crescent moon.)

Swimming M&M's.....

I don't think I have ever had so much fun with my food- I got to be creative today and make marine life out of M&M's for a birthday cake order I got. Not sure if the two year old will like it as much as I do but I had fun making it and I think his mom will be happy with the end result. (win, win)

Under the sea cake - french vanilla cake with whipped frosting and M&M marine life.

M&M lobster and fish and snowball jelly fish.

M&M octopus

Orange and green vegetation.

Every side is different and surrounded with crushed ice cream cones used for sand.

It's a jungle out there

Here is my latest work in progress - a jungle themed baby shower cake. The clients only real request was that she wanted 3D grass and a jungle animal theme (with a monkey). After some shopping I found some toys (including a teething ring) at my local Walmart and here is where I'm at so far. Just have the writing to go and am fighting with myself of how to do it.
